About Park Trek

Park Trek began in 2000. It is the creation of its owner/manager/tour host/coffee maker Alan Fenner. Alan has a solid background as an avid bushwalker and as an ex-Outward Bound Field Instructor. He has brought together his love of the outdoors and his enthusiasm for creating a social and safe bush experience for others together to forge an operation that provides its guests with an exceptional holiday experience. Since 2000 Park Trek has run over 100 trips and has garnered a reputation for stimulating scenery, an engaging social occasion, exercise, time to absorb and enjoy the natural world.

Park Trek also provides all food which is healthy, delicious and organic, transport and accommodation including any camping requirements.

On any given trip, you are likely to be sharing your experience with a number of guests that have done previous trips.

About Your Trip Hosts

Alan is your trip host and is accompanied by either one or two assistants.

About our vehicles

Park Trek uses modern, clean and comfortable mini-coaches. Depending on the group size we use a variety of coaches including 12 seater Toyota Commuters, 14 seater Mercedes Benz Sprinters, 22 seater Toyota Coasters or 25 seater Mitsubishi Rosas.

About the food we serve

Organic food is served in abundance on all Park Trek trips. Freshly sourced from a variety of provisioners the organic food we serve you has become a cornerstone of all of our trips. Whether we are in a remote region of the Flinders Ranges, or trekking around Kakadu, Cradle Mountain, etc, there is always plenty of fresh organic food on hand to provide nutrition, vitality and fresh taste.

Breakfasts are usually mueslis and other cereals, as well as toast and plenty of those all important morning brews of tea and coffee in different varieties.

Lunches are simple affairs as we are usually stopping somewhere out on a walk and so have to be carried in your backpack. We source a wide variety of breads, spreads, salad vegetables and cured meats to allow you to indulge your creative whims and come up with a filling and satisfying lunch.

Dinner may be a vegetarian korma, or a chicken stir-fry, or a classic Australian barbeque around the campfire. Alternatively, perhaps a minestrone, a pasta bolognaise or oven roasted fresh salmon. While our trip menu is always pre-determined we are sensitive towards guests' dietary requirements and can always prepare a meal to meet your needs. And of course relaxing with a glass of wine at day’s end makes for a very socially conducive atmosphere.

Snack food in the form of fresh nuts, dried fruits, and sweets are on hand to top up your day's food requirements. Plus there’s plenty of apples, pears, mandarins or whatever fresh fruit is in season.

About the walking

All of the walks are tailored to allow us plenty of time to absorb our surrounds without being rushed and to see as much varied scenery as possible.  Whether it's a short half-hour/2 kilometre stroll or full day/14 - 22 kilometre outing you'll find so much to engage your mind while your body enjoys the gentle rhythm of walking carrying only a lightweight daypack.

About the people who join our trips

Over the six years since we began Park Trek, we have noticed that most of our guests are between 30 to 65 years of age. There are exceptions either side of that number. One of the most satisfying aspects of our trips is the cohesive nature of our groups. Friendships are forged on our trips as the atmosphere is easy going, informal and the activity level allows people with a wide range of abilities and fitness levels to happily participate. Many guests are travelling on their own while we also get couples and groups of friends joining us as well. While we do get guests from overseas, we find the majority of guests are Australia based.

What you need to bring with you

Our guests only need to bring the clothing they are needing for the duration of the trip, as well as a pair of comfortable walking shoes, toiletries and any personal medication. It is really that simple. The most important item for you to have with you is a reliable pair of walking boots/shoes. Runners and flat-soled shoes will not suffice except as something you can wear after the day’s activity. We are also increasingly seeing, and encouraging the use of, walking poles with a telescopic arm. We have a printable list of what you need to bring with you, which we can either surface mail you or you can print off here.

What Park Trek provides its guests

As soon as you enter our vehicle, your needs are looked after. We have a small daypack, fresh drinking water and a ground mat waiting for you to use for the entire time you are with us. There is also a printable list of what we provide which we can also surface mail you or which you print off here. Our daypacks are also available for purchase, currently priced at $65.00 (inc. GST).
