4 Days: Sunday 12th to Wednesday 15th February 20123 Nights: Stewarts Bay Lodge in Port Arthur
The dolerite formations that make Cradle Mountain such an amazing sight are exactly what make the soaring sea cliffs of the Tasman Peninsula such an amazing sight to behold. More dramatic than any other coastline in Australia the Tasman Peninsula hosts an excellent network of walking trails that allow the day walker access to a number of premier locations. Our place of stay at the Stewarts Bay Lodge affords us great comfort and warmth as well as it’s own piece of coastline. This Park Trek walking holiday to the Tasman Peninsula is one of our more challenging offerings. This trip is part of a Park Trek 2UP. It is linked in with our East Coast Explorer that runs from Monday 6th February to Saturday 11th February 2012. If both trips are booked together as a 2UP the combined outlay is $2740.00. This represents a saving of $150.00! DAY 1We will start the trip with a 9.00am pick up at Hobart Airport. We'll head down to Port Arthur immediately. As soon as we arrive into our place of stay we'll can serve you a morning tea and get our days walking underway. After sorting out our lunches we’ll head off to Fortescue Bay where we walk out to Cape Hauy. Cape Hauy’s famous candlestick formation encapsulates the amazing land formations that we’ll see over the next few days that we are walking this splendid coastline. It’s a magnificent place for lunch. Then it’s time to return to our place of stay for an evening BBQ, wine and a sunset. . Our accommodation for the three nights we are away is in the Stewarts Bay Lodge, situated in the most enchanting location right on the Port Arthur waterfront. The Lodge's waterfront position is one of the most picturesque locations in Tasmania. From our cabin balcony's you can overlook the peace and serenity of Stewarts Bay. Each cabin has two rooms and one shared bathroom. You can choose to have a room to yourself for the three nights for an additional $180.00 or you can share a twin share room with another guest. Our guides will commandeer one of the larger lodges which we use to serve breakfast, make lunches and serve wine and dinner. And the views overlooking the peaceful Stewarts Bay are gorgeous. Plus it is only a short 15 minute walk into the Port Arthur historic precinct. 8 kilometres walkingDAY 2Today we have Cape Raoul firmly in our sights. This is a straightforward walk, although the return ascent up to the Cape Raoul lookout has been described as somewhat challenging by previous participants. The walk in general is easy underfoot and the views are just sublime. We lunch out on the point overlooking 200 metre high sea cliffs, a truly amazing place to stop and appreciate. Then it’s a return walk retracing our steps back to our coach and smiles all around as we return to our place of stay for a welcome cuppa and perhaps a late afternoon wander of your own accord. 14 kilometres walkingDAY 3The recently upgraded Tasman Trail has helped create one of the best coastal walks in Australia. Today we walk its most scenic section starting at Fortescue Bay and heading towards the impenetrable cliff lines of Waterfall Bay. Towering sea cliffs, views down the length of the peninsula towards Cape Hauy and a surging coastline are part of this exceptional days walking. Arguablt the best section of coastal walking in Australia. Our coach will be waiting for us at journey’s end and some welcome relief with a hearty cuppa.
