3 Days: Friday 20th to Sunday 22th January 20121 Nights: Alpine Hotel Mt Baw Baw
1 Nights: Star Hotel in Walhalla
The Baw Baw Plateau is only two hours out of Melbourne and is the beginning of Australia’s famous Alpine Walking Trail. Join Park Trek for a journey that covers approx 40 kilometres of this walk for a three day escape along the start of this iconic trail. You’ll enjoy overnight accommodation at Mount Baw Baw and in the village of Walhalla, along with friendly and helpful guiding, comfortable transport in and out of Melbourne and nearly all meals provided. Plus you’ll enjoy the huge benefits of having a nature based three day break offering plenty of exercise along excellent walking trails with plenty of lush alpine growth and fresh mountain air to clear your lungs.DAY 1
We pick up in Central Melbourne between 7.30am and 8.00am. It’s only a short dash out of Melbourne before we stop for a great morning tea at Yarragon. The folks in the cafe will also make us our lunch as we are looking to get our days walking underway along a section of the Alpine Trail that starts from Stronachs Camp out along the Alpine Walking Trail to Mount Whitelaw. It is approximately 10 kilometres of walking with some good views and steady rises along the way. We retrace our steps back to where our coach is parked and then head off for Mt Baw Baw Village. We’ll be checking you in to the Alpine Hotel around 5.30pm. DAY 2
Our second day sees us gearing up for an excellent days outing. After a hearty breakfast we pack our lunch and head out on the trail around 8.30am with the air fresh and crisp. Your bags will be transferred on to the next port of call. Your walk today is between the Baw Baw Village and culminating at Mushroom Rocks. It’s a classic slice of alpine scenery with snow gums fringing grassy meadows, small streams brim with life and wildflowers grow abundantly. You’ll be captivated by the smooth granite rock formations at Mushroom Rocks, very close to where the days walking finishes. DAY 3
Tuck into the famous breakfast fare of the Star Hotel before your guide brings you to the trail head just across the road from your overnight place of stay. Here you can take off at your own pace as the guide goes ahead to meet you further down the track. This last section of the Alpine Walking Trail is a beauty as you follow a well worn path that winds through Stringers Gorge, a very scenic and delightful gorge. Poverty Point Bridge over the Thompson River is a very famous historical icon and then the last section down to meet the coach is a straightforward ramble. |
