3 Days: Friday 13th to Sunday 15th April 20121 Nights: Alpine Hotel Mt Baw Baw
1 Nights: Star Hotel in Walhalla
The Baw Baw Plateau is only two hours out of Melbourne and is the beginning of Australia’s famous Alpine Walking Trail. Join Park Trek for a journey that covers approx 40 kilometres of this walk for a three day escape along the start of this iconic trail. You’ll enjoy overnight accommodation at Mount Baw Baw and in the village of Walhalla, along with friendly and helpful guiding, comfortable transport in and out of Melbourne and nearly all meals provided. Plus you’ll enjoy the huge benefits of having a nature based three day break offering plenty of exercise along excellent walking trails with plenty of lush alpine growth and fresh mountain air to clear your lungs.DAY 1We pick up in Central Melbourne between 7.30am and 8.00am. We then make a quick dash out of town and head straight for a quick comfort stop and a chance for you to buy yourself a coffee enroute to Walhalla. We’ll pull up in the small village of Walhalla around 10.30am and get ourselves organised with making lunch. Our walk gets underway at the gateway to the Australian Alpine Walking Trail, right in the heart of Walhalla. Our days walk is approximately 12 kilometres long, follows an even contour making for a relatively level days walking and includes having lunch along the way. While the first half of the walk is through the gorge corridor that leads into Walhalla the second half follows the Thomson River. There will be sections of the track that may be muddy so please be prepared. Finally our coach is waiting to bring us back into Walhalla where we check into the delightful Star Hotel. There’ll be time for you to go for a wander through one of the most picturesque villages in regional Victoria. Dinner will be in the Walhalla Pub and you’ll be able to order two courses off the menu. Drinks are at your own expense. DAY 2 Our second day sees us gearing up for an excellent days outing. After a hearty breakfast we pack our lunch and head out on the trail around 9.00am with the air fresh and crisp. Your bags will be transferred on to the next port of call. We are heading for the Mount Erica Car Park which is our launching platform for our second days walk. Our days walk goes from Mt Erica Car Park through to the Mt Baw Baw village, approximately 17 kilometres of excellent alpine walking. Lunch will be eaten along the way and you’ll be walking through a delightful remote section of the Australian Alpine Walking Trail. We expect to be arriving into Baw Baw Village around 4.30pm and checking you into the Alpine Hotel. The Alpine Hotel is a comfortably appointed place of stay. While the rooms are small, they have their own tea and coffee making facilities, their own ensuite and the Hotel is very centrally located. There is a communal area downstairs although it is likely to be quiet as the village is typically quiet at this time of the year. Our focal point for our nights stay in the Baw Baw Village is the Village Central Restaurant where you can buy yourself a coffee and also where we eat our evening meal. You’ll be able to order a mains and either a starter or a dessert. Instead of there being a set menu you’ll be able to order what you want so far as a main meal and an entree course is concerned. The food and hospitality is absolutely first class. Dessert is likely to be pre-determined. Drinks are at your own expense. The views from the Village Central Restaurant are absolutely superb and the atmosphere is warm and friendly. DAY 3 Our final day walking begins right outside the front door of the Alpine Hotel. We begin with breakfast served from 7.30am onwards. We’ll depart from our place of stay around 9.00am as we have around a two and a half hour/five to six kilometre walk ahead of us. We have a simple programme for today as we hike out along some of the trails that surround the Baw Baw Village. We follow the Village as it wanders through a delightful strand of snow gum alpine woodland environment. Lunch is eaten at the Village Central Restaurant. We’ll be leaving the Mt Baw Baw Village around 1.00pm making our way back to Melbourne. TRIP COST IS: $870.00 (INC GST). Price is based on twi share. Single Supplement is $140.00 for the two nights.
