Easter in the Victorian Alps 2010
4 days 3 nights |
Friday 2nd April to Monday 5th April 2010 lodge accommodation in Falls Creek |
Easter in the Victorian Alps is one of the loveliest and most hospitable times to enjoy the High Country. Over 4 days we’ll enjoy exceptional walking around the Bogong High Plains returning every evening to a lovely cosy lodge. We stay in the alpine village of Falls Creek right in the heart of Alpine Victoria.
DAY 1
We’d like everyone joining us to be at the departure point in Melbourne at 8.15am so we can begin our journey. After filling you up on morning tea in Euroa we head for the bustling town of Beechworth, looking splendid in it’s burgeoning autumn colours. Here we lunch followed by a short walk around the towns rather spectacular gorge. We then move onto our lodge in Falls Creek and settle in to our place of stay for the next 3 nights.

Our place of stay...
For the three nights we are up in Falls Creek we are staying in the lovely Schuss Ski Lodge. The rooms here are configured for twin share with 2 single beds and each has it's own ensuite. You can share with a friend, or have a room to yourself for an additional $150.00. Otherwise we can pair you up with another same sex guest. The kitchen here is fabulous and allows us to cater for you to a very high standard. The lounge area is an ideal place to relax with a glass of wine and plenty of Park Trek hospitality on hand.
DAY 2
Today’s walk just oozes with history. We’ll depart our lodge around 8.30am and head out for a morning walk to a couple of fabulous high country huts Kelly’s and Fitzgerald’s. This is a fairly easy walk that gives your legs a good stretch and takes us to a different part of the high plains with views towards Mt. Kosciuszko and the Main Range. Then after lunch we follow a delightful little watercourse and enjoy a short leg of the Australian Alpine Walking Track back to our vehicle and a reluctant return to our lodge.

DAY 3
Pretty Valley is our day’s destination. Our walk today is an easy high country ramble to a fabulous cattlemen’s hut called Tawonga Huts before we ascend to a nearby peak for magnificent views over towards Mount Feathertop and into the surrounding valleys. In the bright sunshine this tremendous walk is a classic high country experience. Lots of wildflowers, dramatic views and time to enjoy the company of your fellow walkers and soak up your surrounds.

DAY 4
Well our last day but one still with some excellent walking. This mornings walk is an easy ramble to a number of exquisitely preserved historical huts. We start at the oldest hut in the area, and the most photographed, with a visit to Wallace’s Hut and then proceed via an evenly surfaced and well-shaded track, which follows a small watercourse to another fabulous historical relic Cope Hut. We’ll return to the coach and begin our journey home. First stop is lunch (OE) in the beautiful town of Mount Beauty. Then after lunch we depart for afternoon tea in Benalla before returning you to Melbourne around 6.00pm.
