ski lodge accommodation in Falls Creek
You do have the option of booking just the original 4 day trip if you wish. |
Easter in the Victorian Alps is one of the loveliest and most hospitable times to enjoy the High Country. Over 5 days we’ll enjoy exceptional walking around the Bogong High Plains returning every evening to a lovely cosy lodge. We stay in the alpine village of Falls Creek right in the heart of Alpine Victoria.
We have added an optional extra night on to the trip.
At the time of planning our 2011 programme it did not occur to us that the Tuesday 26th April 2011 would be declared a public holiday. It is Anzac Day. So we have made provisions for guests to book for a five day/four night trip if they so desire. The additional cost per person is $220.00. It means that if you take the five day option its total cost per person is $1090.00 (inc. GST). If you want just the 4 day option the trip cost is $870.00 (inc. GST).
DAY 1
We’d like everyone joining us to be at the departure point in Melbourne at 8.15am so we can begin our journey. After filling you up on morning tea in Euroa we head for the bustling town of Beechworth, looking splendid in it’s burgeoning autumn colours. Here we lunch followed by a short walk around the towns rather spectacular gorge. We then move onto our lodge in Falls Creek and settle in to our place of stay for the next 3 nights.

Our place of stay...
For the three nights we are up in Falls Creek we are staying in the lovely Schuss Ski Lodge. The rooms here are configured for twin share with 2 single beds and each has it's own ensuite. You can share with a friend, or have a room to yourself for an additional $150.00. Otherwise we can pair you up with another same sex guest. The kitchen here is fabulous and allows us to cater for you to a very high standard. The lounge area is an ideal place to relax with a glass of wine and plenty of Park Trek hospitality on hand.
DAY 2
Today’s walk just oozes with history. We’ll depart our lodge around 8.30am and head out for a morning walk to a couple of fabulous high country huts Kelly’s and Fitzgerald’s. This is a fairly easy walk that gives your legs a good stretch and takes us to a different part of the high plains with views towards Mt. Kosciuszko and the Main Range. Then after lunch we follow a delightful little watercourse and enjoy a short leg of the Australian Alpine Walking Track back to our vehicle and a reluctant return to our lodge.

DAY 3
Pretty Valley is our day’s destination. Our walk today is an easy high country ramble to a fabulous cattlemen’s hut called Tawonga Huts before we ascend to a nearby peak for magnificent views over towards Mount Feathertop and into the surrounding valleys. In the bright sunshine this tremendous walk is a classic high country experience. Lots of wildflowers, dramatic views and time to enjoy the company of your fellow walkers and soak up your surrounds.

DAY 4
We all start from Langfords Gap this morning and make our way to Wallaces Hut. If you are heading back to Melbourne, this is where your time away with us finishes. The coach will then take you down to Bright and drop you off at the Alpine Hotel where your coach will pick you up from at 2.30pm. For the rest of the group we’ll continue on to Ropers Hut and then, following the Australian Alpine Walking track, we’ll head across the Bogong High Plains towards Pretty Valley Pondage. Today’s walk is very straightforward. If it’s extra mileage you are after at day’s end then one of the guides will lead a group of willing walkers down Frying Pan Spur. 12 to 15 kilometres walking.
Day 5.
We’ll leave the lodge around 9.00am this morning and head down the mountain to the small village of Bogong. Here there is a short 1.5 hour walk around Lake Guy, enough to get some warmth into your muscles. Either Mt Beauty or Myrtleford is our first port of call at lunchtime followed by an afternoon tea stop at the Benalla Gallery Café. We aim to have you back in Melbourne between 6.00 – 6.30pm.
