Alpine High Plains March/April 2012

4 Days: Saturday 31st March to 3rd April 2012

3 Nights: A beautiful lodge at Dinner Plain village

Park Treks walking holiday in the Victorian High Country is the best way to escape the maddening crowds of summer and be somewhere full of life and colour. Your four days away with us gives you the opportunity to give your legs a good stretch with exquisite alpine scenery and delightful walking tracks. A days walking with just a small daypack is followed by an evening of great company and delicious food. Typically each year we take away 20 guests and 3 staff making it a very social occasion.

DAY 1

We depart from Melbourne at 8.15am and head immediately for a morning tea stop two hours away in Euroa.  Then it’s time to make tracks again for lunch by the leafy banks of the Ovens River in the charming town of Bright. While in Bright we take the opportunity to walk a small section of the Ovens River Gorge, a delightful discovery full of early gold rush history. Then it’s onto our superb accommodation up in the gorgeous alpine village of Dinner Plain.

We have booked several lodges accommodating between 6 to 11 guests. Each lodge is well appointed and offers a delightful accommodation experience. The main lodge is the focus of the main gatherings for meals in the mornings and evenings. It has superb views overlooking Victoria’s High Country. None of the rooms have their own ensuite however there is typically one bathroom to two rooms.

Plenty of organic fare to tuck into for your first night away with. First it's time to open some carefully chosen bottles of local wine just to set the tone for the next few days.

4 kilometres walking

DAY 2

We’ll leave the vehicle alone today as we walk from Dinner Plains out to Mount Tabletop. This is a terrific shaded walk across alpine meadows, visiting a well preserved high country hut and then out across alpine meadows full of wildflowers. Our trail leads along alpine woodlands to lunch atop Mount Tabletop. We return back to our village, with time for you to wander and absorb your charming surrounds. After such a pleasing days walk it’s time to enjoy a delicious BBQ.

15 kilometres walking

DAY 3

Today we stride out along Victoria’s most spectacular alpine route, The Razorback. We will give you the option of walking all the way to Victoria’s most impressive alpine peak, Mount Feathertop (a 22 kilometre journey), or doing a shorter return walk (typically between 8 to 14 kilometres of walking). Either way the views are with us every step of the way today. Then upon return we freshen up for our eveing out in the local Dinner Plains Hotel for country fare at it's best (Own Expense).

You can walk from 6 up to 22 kilometres today

DAY 4

One last tango! This morning we head off for a terrific short walk that leaves from the edge of the Dinner Plains village. Then it's on to Bright where  you can choose where you have lunch (Own Expense). We aim to return to Melbourne around 6.30pm.

Up to 8 kilometres walking

Return flights home from Melbourne Airport on the last day of this trip need to be booked from 8.00pm onwards.
