Alpine High Plains December 2009

4 days
3 nights
Sunday 27th December to Wednesday 30th December 2009
in our own beautiful lodge at Dinner Plain village

What a great way to escape the maddening crowds of summer and be somewhere full of life and colour.  Our four days away offer us the opportunity to give our legs a good stretch with exquisite alpine scenery and delightful walking tracks. A days walking with just a small daypack is followed by an evening of great company and delicious food. This year we'll take away 20 guests and 3 staff making it a very social occasion.

DAY 1

We depart from Melbourne at 8:00am and head immediately for a morning tea stop two hours away in Euroa. Then it’s time to make tracks again for lunch by the leafy banks of the Ovens River in the charming town of Bright. While in Bright
we take the opportunity to walk a small section of the Ovens River Gorge, a delightful discovery full of early gold rush history. Then it’s onto our superb accommodation up in the gorgeous alpine village of Dinner Plains. Here we settle into a delightful lodge, our place of stay for the next three nights with superb views overlooking Victoria’s High Country.

4 kilometres walking

DAY 2

We’ll leave the vehicle alone today as we walk from Dinner Plain out to Mt Tabletop. This is a terrific shaded walk across alpine meadows, visiting a well preserved high country hut and then out on a narrow path to lunch atop Mt Tabletop. We return back to our village, with time for you to wander and absorb your charming surrounds. Tonight we eat out at a local restaurant (OE).

15 kilometres walking

DAY 3

Today we stride out along Victoria’s most spectacular alpine route, The Razorback. We will give you the option of walking all the way to Victoria’s most impressive alpine peak, Mt Feathertop, or doing a shorter return walk. Those that wish to conquer the peak will be taken with your guide to walk start at 7:30am and the following group will start walking later at 8:30am. Either way the views are with us every step of the way today. After such a pleasing days walk its time to enjoy a delicious BBQ this evening back at our gorgeous lodgings.

You can walk from 6 up to 22 kilometres today

DAY 4

One last tango! This morning we head off for a terrific short walk following a popular walking trail from behind the Mt Hotham alpine village. The walk gives us spectacular views over the entire alpine region. We lunch at a small family restaurant OE in the town of Bright before we make tracks for our return journey to Melbourne returning around 6:00pm.

Up to 8 kilometres walking
